And it’s a wrap! YOGgies sign off from Sochi

February 25th, 2014

Many records were broken and many new ones were set over the course of the Games. Over 60 young athletes gave it their best shot, carrying the legacy of the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games held in Innsbruck in 2012.

From Russian teenager Adelina Sotnikova winning the figure skating crown with a stellar performance to Japanese snowboarder Taku Hiroaka creating history for his country in the sport  by claiming bronze in the halfpipe, beating legend Shaun White, every YOGgie left their mark in Sochi.

It was not just the athletes who brought the YOG DNA to Russia – the Young Ambassadors and Reporters were busy behind the scenes or in the press stands, working hard to make the Games a success, or supporting their nation’s athletes with their National Olympic Committee.

And now the focus shifts to the second edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games, when the famous flame reaches Nanjing, China, later this year in search of new young talent both on and off the field of play that will celebrate youth and the spirit of Olympism together.

The YOG reporting team in Sochi, Anna and I now take our leave. It’s been a wonderful journey of discovery, memories, emotions and a lot of fun together! Until next time, spasiba bolshoi Russia!
