Snowboard: Reigning Snowboard Cross gold Frieden injured – AFP News : Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics

Geneva (AFP) – Reigning Olympic Snowboard gold medallist Tanja Frieden is flying back to Switzerland for treatment after being injured during qualifying for a Canadian World Cup race, the Swiss ski-ing federation said Thursday.

Federation spokesman David Hurzeler said it was not clear if the Snowboard Cross champion was in doubt for the Winter Games in Vancouver in three weeks’ time after she dislocated a shoulder and hurt both her achilles tendons at Stoneham.

“It’s still not certain,” Swiss-ski spokesman David Hurzeler told AFP.

Frieden will return to Switzerland accompanied by a nurse for a check up by the Swiss team doctor at a clinic in Zurich, the federation said in a statement.
