Ice hockey: Czech Olympic captain Elias has concussion – AFP News : Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics

January 21st, 2010

Newark (AFP) – New Jersey left wing Patrik Elias, captain of the Czech Republic team for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, was placed on the National Hockey League injured list Wednesday with a concussion.

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said Elias, who has scored 10 goals in 32 games this season, was examined by a neurologist and will be re-examined later this week.

Elias was injured Saturday when checked in the chin by Colorado defenseman Ryan Wilson.

The Czech squad won Olympic gold at the 1998 Nagano Olympic Winter Games, the first to use active NHL talent thanks to a league shutdown, and defeated Russia to capture the bronze medal at the 2006 Turin Olympic Winter Games.

The Devils have 32 wins in 47 games to lead the NHL’s Atlantic Division.
